“This is the day the LORD has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.”
Psalm 118:24
Would you say you’re a New Year Resolution type-of-person or a “Word of the Year” type?
We are on the brim of concluding this year and this is the time that many people set aside some time of reflection and goal-setting.
This morning as I was journaling during my quiet time, I was thinking about what big things I wanted to accomplish in 2025. As I began to jot down my thoughts and reflected on the journey of 2024, I just felt the word SLOW drop into my spirit…
As I pondered and prayed about what that meant for me, it came to mind my tendency to rush into the next goal and do the next thing. Maybe its my self-diagnosed ADD, but I can very much get hyper-focussed on something rather quickly, while also becoming equally as passionate about something else the following week… :/
I reflected on all that God has done in 2024, and recognizing that there was so much movement that happened ( like, literally moving to another state, another job for both my husband and I) and how truly, this year was full of so much transition for us as a family.
However, before I had stopped to recognize all that has transpired this year, I was asking God about what was next…
I can’t help but think how our fast-paced culture has penetrated into our christianity as well..or maybe it’s just me? We want God to move quickly. We need that answer right now. We want to see the results, in-a-flash. We have grown accustomed to getting things within a quick click of a button that when something feels delayed or the thing we once were excited about no longer brings us the same joy, we find ourselves frustrated, disappointed and looking for the next “thing”.
Anyone else feel me on this one?
Yet I wonder how much we truly miss by not slowing down and appreciating not only where God has brought us from….but what He is doing in our life, right now…
This is what I believe God was showing me this morning. There’s nothing wrong with the goal-setting and the believing God for greater things in the upcoming year. But if we are constantly looking to do the next thing, be in the next season, reach the next goal…without taking the time to embrace the now or pausing long enough to see the beauty in this season.. than we rob ourselves of treasure that today holds.
So as we consider what we would like to see in the next year, may be also slow down long enough to see the richness of today’s assignment, today’s blessings, today’s provisions..and best of all, the promise of His everlasting presence for every believer, Today and forevermore.
